Position Summary:

The Brandcenter at VCU seeks a highly motivated Associate Director for Extension Programs. This position reports to the Executive Director and works in collaboration with the Director of Creative Circus at VCU. This position also serves as a member of the senior leadership team within the Brandcenter. This role requires an entrepreneurial spirit as it is primarily responsible for the development, recruitment, and management of the launch of The Creative Circus at VCU and other custom credit/non-credit programming. This position maintains a close working relationship with prospects/clients—namely, instructors, custom program contacts, feeder school contacts, prospective students, and program participants.

The Associate Director will lead the development, strategies, and processes to achieve programmatic, enrollment, and recruitment goals for The Creative Circus at VCU programming, our new eMBA concentration, and other bespoke programming, which, together, we refer to as our “extension programs.”

This position coordinates operational aspects of extension program courses and events, manages promotion, recruitment, communications, and program logistics, and is responsible for efficient, cost-effective program administration to provide extraordinary client service. The Associate Director understands that enrollment management is research- and data-centric, regularly providing analysis, projections, and corresponding strategies necessary to meet enrollment goals.

Typical Responsibilities:
  • Continuously evaluate educational opportunities for working professionals, develop learning modules, and identify SMEs to instruct and build courses and contribute to proposals for individual and custom programs.
  • Research and facilitate hiring decisions related to instructors for The Creative Circus program at VCU, as well as the new eMBA concentration. This work includes, but is not limited to, interview processes, course scheduling, and contract development.
  • Streamline processes to cultivate, enroll, and retain students more effectively using demographic data to identify prospective students, target messaging and outreach, and maximize department budgets to achieve growth goals.
  • Collaborate with our third-party marketing and enrollment management vendor.
  • Report to the Executive Director and leadership team on market research, demographics, and relevant enrollment trends.
  • Develop and analyze effective external communications and marketing campaigns to attract and convert prospective students to extension programs.
  • Leverage, maintain, and utilize our Slate instance to nurture and manage prospects from inquiry to enrollment, focusing on data integrity, customer satisfaction, and efficient application processing.
  • Develop and facilitate small-group presentations to generate interest in programs as well as convert interested prospects/clients to registered/applied.
  • Evaluate applications, make enrollment recommendations, determine eligibility for programs, and present recommendations to final review authorities (if applicable for certain programs).
  • Act as a representative of the Brandcenter to domestic and global business communities. This position will include travel for recruitment, development, partnership, and other special promotions, events, and event management.
  • Network with, solicit, and coordinate requests from companies and agencies who are looking for custom executive education program(s) for their employees, leaders, and teams.
  • Other ad-hoc duties as required. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 3-5 years relevant work experience required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to maintain, plan, organize, and monitor multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, work under pressure, and with a sense of autonomy.
  • Ability to take initiative, define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and suggest/provide solutions.
  • Proven ability to integrate ideas and concepts.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise exceptional interpersonal skills and customer service through oral and written communication.
  • Proven ability in public speaking.
  • Proven technology and social media skills are mandatory, including a working knowledge of Google Suite products (Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.) with an ability to learn new software.
  • Experience working in and fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment or the commitment to do so as an employee at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree or graduate coursework.
  • 2-3 years of experience coordinating conferences, management training programs, or working as an academic program coordinator.
  • 4-5 years of business or administrative experience in a customer relations capacity.
  • Knowledge/experience of the creative/advertising industry.
  • Knowledge/experience of higher education.
  • 1 year working with enterprise technology solutions such as Salesforce, Slate, Event Registration tools, Learning Management Systems (e.g., NovoEd, Canvas), or Customer Relationship Management systems.
