The BAS Field Device Technician at VCU must have the ability to work in a variety of conditions and circumstances including office spaces, roofs, basements, crawl spaces, above ceilings, in ducts, off of ladders, scaffolding, and lift equipment; must be able to differentiate between different types and colors of wire and be able to use hand tools, various power tools, meters, laptops, and smartphones; must have proven electro-mechanical aptitude through verifiable work experience or education and technical training.
The BAS Field Device Technician will monitor, repair, modify, and install various types of automation components across campus. You will work with vendors and senior technicians to modify and write programs for automation systems to meet customer needs. You will respond to service requests working with vendors and trades technicians as needed to resolve technical problems relating to system controls. You will calibrate systems requiring basic electronic test equipment and complete administrative tasks including but not limited to work order documentation, time cards, continuing education, safety training, and project reviews.
Minimum Hiring Standards
- High school diploma or equivalent GED
- Service experience with HVAC or electronic controls
- Valid State of Virginia Driver's license0
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, plans, schematics, specifications, and scopes of work
- Ability to work in a diverse, dynamic, fast-paced, and high stress environment
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
- Journeyman HVAC or Electrician license in the state of Virginia
- Completion of two (2) or more controls vendor (JCI, Siemens, Tridium, ALC) development courses
- Verifiable trades service experience in a research or healthcare setting
- Valid State of Virginia Driver's license
