Chief Purpose of this position: The Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Cardiology is seeking a candidate to provide Interventional Cardiology clinical care along with supporting the academic mission in research and education. The incumbent will join an established group of physicians and surgeons in one of the top Heart Centers in the United States.

Position Responsibilities:

Teaching | To support teaching directly via interactions with fellows, housestaff and non-physician professionals. Periodically will be expected to present appropriate reviews in patient management discussions at Cardiology and Department of Internal Medicine conferences. In addition, will be expected to participate in University Continuing Medical Education programs for practicing physicians which is important to enhancing patient referrals.

Research | To support clinical research protocols in cardiac catheterization and cardiac intervention.

Service | Will be expected to network to build referral base and participate in outreach.

Clinical | Interventional cath procedures to include diagnostic and coronary interventions, including placement of temporary mechanical circulatory support devices and complex coronary intervention. Expanding clinical and investigative Invasive Cardiology. Will provide cross coverage in other cardiology modalities and outreach sites. Duties may include limited attending in the Coronary Intensive Care Unit and/or General Cardiology Inpatient Service – which could be at VCUHS or one of its outreach facilities; will provide emergency coverage on a rotating call basis; will also have clinic accessibility. A working title related to a clinical role is commensurate with experience.

Other (for instance administrative duties, etc.) | Submit billing and document care as required by the organization. Abide by all medical staff requirements. Participate in quality initiatives.

Required Qualifications:
  • The incumbent must be a BC/BE Interventional Cardiologist
  • The incumbent must demonstrate skills in interventional treatment of complex coronary artery disease
  • The incumbent must be clinically oriented and possess sufficient research and teaching experience to be eligible for academic appointment
  • The incumbent must be able to communicate effectively and work with a large multidisciplinary program
  • The incumbent will be expected to participate in Teaching and Fellowship programs
  • The incumbent must be eligible for medical licensure in state of Virginia
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Interest and/or training in temporary mechanical circulatory support, cardiogenic shock and critical care
  • Training in the treatment of complex coronary disease
