The Department of Chemistry seeks a post-doctoral fellow to join our team on an NSF-funded collaborative research project that aims to help students develop professional skills in their STEM classrooms by designing and implementing a scalable digital platform, SkillBuilder, based on existing ELIPSS skill rubrics (ELIPSS.com). The SkillBuilder web application will be used in classroom assessment efforts to provide students with actionable and scalable feedback on transferable skill development including critical thinking, communication, teamwork, and problem solving.
Position Responsibilities:
The post-doctoral fellow will work closely with all members of the project team and primary collaborators at ten additional institutions to optimize feedback and assessment strategies across a broad range of STEM fields. Over the life of the project, the primary responsibilities of the post-doctoral fellow will be to:
- Assist in the development and facilitation of training modules and professional development workshops to support instructors in the use of the Skillbuilder Application tool
- Assist in guiding instructors in implementation options through consultations and ongoing support
- Assist in IRB acquisition as needed for instructors who agree to collect student data for research purposes
- Collect and analyze feedback from instructors on classroom utility and feedback strategies
- Manage data collection and analysis from participating STEM instructors
- Conduct focus group interviews with instructors and students
- Participate in collaborative project meetings, present research at conferences, and prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication.
Required Qualifications:
Ph.D. from an accredited institution in a STEM field, discipline-based education research, science education, or a related field. A demonstrated ability to work/collaborate with others.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience with one or more of the following: conducting STEM education research; classroom assessment strategies; strong oral and written communication skills, obtaining Institutional Review Board approval.
Salary Range: $47,476 - $48,000
