The mission of the School of Nursing is to shape the future of nursing through the power of education, discovery, and collaboration.

Chief Purpose of this position:

VCU School of Nursing is seeking a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with clinical expertise in psychiatric mental health nursing across the age span. This faculty position is open appointment and rank, based on demonstrated scholarly achievement, certifications, and teaching experience.

The faculty member hired into this position will primarily teach in psychiatric mental health courses; contribute to curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation; coordinate clinical sections and clinical education sites; clinically supervise students in undergraduate or graduate practica; participate in school governance activities; and implement all roles of term faculty (teaching, scholarship, and service). Faculty hired into tenured or tenure earning positions will engage in research and scholarly activity associated with rank and experience.

This position may include participation in clinical practice with the School of Nursing Faculty Practice Plan up to 2 days per week, within the VCU Health System. Employees working in or with VCUHealth in any capacity will be required to comply with all relevant health system policies and procedures, including the health system's vaccination requirements.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrates commitment to contributing to VCU's strategic plan, Quest 2028 (https://quest.vcu.edu/).
  • Engages faculty, students, and staff to foster a diverse community at VCU.
  • Participates in all aspects of the school's education mission including teaching (in classroom and clinical settings), curriculum development, evaluation, and coordination of clinical education in select rural settings.
  • Participates in clinical practice with the VCU School of Nursing faculty practice plan (if appropriate).
  • Engages in professional service to the school of nursing, university, profession, and community.
  • Maintains scholarly contributions consistent with academic appointment and rank. Non-tenure earning faculty maintain ongoing scholarly contributions to their field such as translation of evidence to practice, presentations, or publications.
Required Qualifications:
  • Graduate degree in Nursing.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure as a registered nurse in Virginia.
  • Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Certification.
  • Current or recent clinical practice experience.
  • Documented effectiveness in collaboration and communication.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
  • Candidates who do not hold a terminal degree will be expected to complete a degree within 5 years of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Doctoral degree (PhD or DNP) in nursing or related field.
  • Experience in higher education including teaching, simulation instruction, accreditation, program review or assessment.
  • Record of accomplishments in scholarship and professional service.
