Chief Purpose of this position:
Division of Pediatric Cardiology is seeking a full-time research faculty member to provide research, teaching, and program development. This position involves effort devoted to the provision of research and teaching, with the specific effort allocation dependent on candidate qualifications and funding support. The candidate will need to demonstrate a track record of securing extramural funding in a related scientific area and will be expected to be actively involved in grant submissions, and manuscript publication. This scientist will collaborate with the other members of the division, under the direction of the chief and director of research for the division. Areas of particular interest include the mechanisms of cardiac inflammation including, but not limited to, myocarditis, pericarditis, cardiotoxicity of cancer treatments, and various forms of cardiomyopathy. This unique position includes opportunities for teaching in the school of medicine and throughout the VCU system with special emphasis on resident and fellows.

Position Responsibilities:
Research

This Assistant Professor faculty appointment position within the Department of Pediatrics, Virginia Commonwealth University, is for an individual with basic science research experience. This individual will also need to have a track record of seeing their ideas through to completion. It is expected, with assistance of mentorship, that they develop the ability to secure revenue through externally funded, competitive grants and contracts. This unique position will be granted a full faculty position in the Division of Pediatric Cardiology and will be expected to actively participate in teaching, research and education of faculty, fellows and trainees. Eventually, this individual will serve as a research mentor to other members of the division and the department of Pediatrics.

Teaching
Faculty member will have teaching responsibilities in the area of their research interest within the Medical School and other avenues for expansion of their portfolio.

Service
Faculty member will have additional responsibilities of being a good citizen and serve on Departmental or School of Medicine level committees when appropriate, as well as professional service through journal reviews, conference presentations, manuscript preparation, IRB reviews for faculty and fellows and serving on the Clinical Competency Committee for fellows.

Other
It is expected that this individual will maintain all required certifications for themselves and their laboratory personnel such as CITI and IACUC training certificates.

Required Qualifications:
--Ph.D. in biological sciences or related doctoral program
--At least one year of post-doctoral training in cardiology-related field
--Experience with models of cardiac inflammation
--Experience with murine ischemia-reperfusion injury induction, induction of acute pericarditis, murine left ventricular catheterization
--Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

Preferred Qualifications:
--Experience with other rodent surgical procedures (specifically orotracheal intubation, tail vein catheter placement, and/or osmotic pump implantation)
--Success in generating revenue (grants/contracts)
