Job Summary:

This summer internship position at the Biostatistics Department at the School of Population Health at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center (MCC) offers an exciting opportunity to work on developing image processing workflows to support multiplex image-based spatial biology datasets. Here's a breakdown of the position overview and qualifications:

Position Overview:
  • The intern will focus on identifying and conducting image processing testing and algorithm development with raw multiplex spatial imaging datasets
  • Contribute to the development of deep learning algorithms aimed at identifying disease biomarkers for patient stratification and precision medicine
  • Collaborate closely with a team of researchers from computer science, biostatistics, and cancer biology to develop novel methodologies and algorithms for analyzing single-cell spatial biology datasets and their impact on disease diagnosis and therapeutic options
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Biomedical Informatics, or a related field
  • Strong background in machine learning, computational biology, and image analysis
  • Proficiency in programming languages including Python and R
  • Experience with deep learning frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch is preferred
  • Familiarity with bioinformatics and single-cell biology
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment
  • Must have a demonstrated commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion in past experiences or a commitment to do so as a intern at VCU
