Mission or Goal of Unit: The mission of the Division of Urology within the VCU Department of Surgery is the pursuit of excellence in all three areas of an academic surgical practice: teaching, research, and patient care. The Division of Urology is dedicated to the pursuit of diversity in all aspects of our division, including faculty, residents, and staff.

Chief Purpose of this position: This position is an open rank, collateral, non-tenure track faculty position in the area of Urology. The faculty member will be responsible for providing clinical services in urologic oncology, training residents in this specialty, providing state of the art care to the patients of Virginia, and developing a multidisciplinary clinic. The clinical position will cover the full breadth of urologic oncology including bladder, kidney, testis, penile and prostate cancer at VCU and the VA. The faculty member will also support the division with teaching responsibilities at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Position Responsibilities:

Teaching
The faculty member will have teaching responsibilities including formal lectures and case presentations to undergraduate medical students encompassing all areas of urology and applied anatomy and physiology.

Research
The faculty member will be expected to be an active participant in clinical trials in their subspecialty interest.

Service
The faculty member will serve on departmental and/or university committees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity in their field, e.g., reviewer, conference organizer, etc.

Clinical
The faculty member will be expected to build and maintain a busy patient-centered clinical practice with a focus on minimally invasive, robotic, and open surgery focused on genitourinary malignancy. This includes both inpatient and outpatient management of all urological diagnoses and operative procedures. Opportunities will exist for expansion of VCU Division of Urology services to outlying clinics and surrounding communities. A multidisciplinary approach is encouraged with our colleagues in medical oncology, radiation oncology, nephrology, transplant medicine, and others.

Required Qualifications:
  • Must be board certified in urology or board eligible
  • Dedicated to teaching residents and medical students
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU is required
  • Commitment to laboratory and/or clinical research within the faculty member's subspecialty interest
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Society of Urologic Oncology (SUO) Fellowship training or equivalent experience in urologic oncology with open, robotic and minimally invasive surgery
  • Teaching experience at the undergraduate or graduate level
  • Additional experience in quality and education
