The Virginia Tourism Corporation (VTC) is seeking a Creative Generalist to join its Brand department in the VTC's Marketing Division. The Creative Generalist will report to the Sr. Creative Director and support the Brand team. This position will work in a collaborative team environment to create and design artwork to support marketing programs at VTC.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented and able to work in a fast-paced environment to turn around multiple projects on quick deadlines. They work well on a team and are receptive of feedback both positive and negative. The ideal candidate will be committed to learning and expanding their skill set in graphic design, video creation, and photography.
This person should have a professional creative portfolio which demonstrates a strong grasp of creative tools such as Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, etc. They should also have a general understanding of photography, videography, and post processing/editing.
The position will often work collaboratively with other departments and divisions, including Brand, Digital, Marketing Operations, Global Marketing, Partnership Marketing, and the Virginia Film Office.
Responsibilities:
• Prepare and design artwork for all assigned creative projects to support marketing programs at VTC, including day-to-day requests such as digital ads, print ads, social media graphics, flier designs, tradeshow displays, website graphics, presentation decks, etc.
• Video editing and animation skills are a plus
• Prior experience with print design and production is a plus
• Assist Brand team in the development of marketing deliverables for each campaign and initiative.
• Consult with department managers and staff from inception of projects in order to determine and assess creative needs and solutions.
• Follow a detailed creative brief for each project and complete projects based on brief details including creative deliverables, budget, and timeline.
• Receive approval from supervisor and client on all design and production schedules
• Follow logo usage and brand design guidelines.
• Review each logo request, obtain approval, and deliver appropriate files to partners.
• Write specifications for each printing project and work with purchasing agent to obtain quotes for printing, service bureau, and display services within three days of design approval. Check printer's proofs for every job within one day. Travel to press checks, service bureaus and photoshoots, as needed.
• Work within budgets and agreed upon deadlines, meeting no less than 95% of deadlines.
• Maintain design project filing system and traffic database within one week of project completion or agreed time.
• Follow up on paperwork, routing of bills within 24 hours of receipt. Archives files for every project responsible for within one week of job completion.
• Photograph events as requested. Travels statewide to photograph sites & localities for use promoting Virginia to media and consumers.
• Edit and prep image files for staff and industry partners to use.
• Work closely with the creative team and Creative Director for all planned photoshoots.
• Ability to edit and catalog images and videos.
• Support creative team for photoshoot planning.
Experience and Education:
• 1-3 years prior experience in design or creative field, marketing/communications.
• BFA in Graphic Design or related field or equivalent work experience preferred.
• Demonstrated skill in the use of multiple design development software packages, including Adobe Creative Suite.
• Background or general interest in travel and tourism essential.
• Knowledge of Virginia's tourism destinations and products preferred, but not required.
• Knowledge of history of graphic design.
• Professional design portfolio.
• Knowledge of the principles of project/traffic management.
• Knowledge of procurement practices.
Skills:
• Demonstrated skill in the use of multiple design development software packages, including Adobe Creative Suite.
• Proficiency in video editing and/or animation is a plus.
• Prior experience with print design and production is a plus.
• Strong collaborator, working well in a team environment while also able to function as an individual contributor with self-direction and accountability.
• Strong time management skills, deadline-oriented and efficient.
• Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
• A demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships, both internally and externally.
• Ability to think both creatively and strategically.
