Principal Plant Operator
Hiring Range: $44,265 - $52,097

Under general supervision, performs work related to the operation and maintenance of a Class I wastewater treatment facility. This includes but is not limited to the following: monitor and adjust process control equipment; observe process trends; perform preventative maintenance; monitor and calibrate instrumentation; record and report operational data; collect process monitoring samples; perform field analytical tests; inventory chemicals. Perform other work as required. High school diploma or GED and a Commonwealth of Virginia Class I Wastewater Operator's License is required for the advertised classification and salary range. Applicants with wastewater experience, a Virginia Wastewater Operator's License, and three years of relevant experience are preferred. Ability to perform manual labor, lift 50 pounds, walk or stand for 30 continuous minutes. Applicants without a Class I Wastewater Operator's License will receive consideration at lower level plant operator classifications and salary grades/ranges. Operator Trainee: High school diploma or GED ($30,522 - $34,935). Plant Operator: Hold a current Class III Commonwealth of Virginia wastewater license or a bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, environmental science, or any engineering field ($33,913 - $39,912). Senior Plant Operator: Hold a current Class II Commonwealth of Virginia wastewater license ($38,749 - $45,603). Trainees and licensees with lower than Class I license will receive salary increases after passing higher license exams. Good driving record required. Must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months.
