Chesterfield County, Virginia, a recognized leader and award winning local government, is seeking an experienced, knowledgeable, and collaborative professional for the Internal Audit Department serving County Government and Chesterfield County Public Schools. Under general supervision, this position is responsible for the following: plans and performs audits to evaluate internal controls, key business risks, performance and compliance with state and federal rules and regulations; assists in developing audit objectives, timeframes, and scopes; independently performs analysis and audits, including special investigations and confidential matters; analyzes audit findings, and makes clear and concise recommendations; provides technical advisory and consultation services to county officials and management to reduce risks, strengthen controls, and improve performance. Perform other work as required. No routine travel required.
Hiring Range: $48,169 - $65,211

Successful candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; minimum of one year of experience in accounting or audit (preferably in government experience); or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), or other related certification is desired. Strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective working relationships; excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; knowledge of Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS), Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and other recognized auditing and accounting practices used by municipal, county, and other local governments. Strong analytic skills, including experience with data extraction and analysis tools; ability to interpret and evaluate financial statements, systems, reports, internal controls, policies and procedures; experience with audit management software.
Valid driver's license and good driving record required. Must not reflect a total accumulation of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months.
